Welcome Year One FdA

Hello all,

I’d like to welcome you to Year One of the FdA Design course and hope you have had a decent summer, despite the rubbish weather.

We’ve decided to send you a summer project to keep you company and hopefully give you a little something to discuss during induction week. I would also like to introduce you to the official Blogspot we have set up for you – www.fdadesign.blogspot.com. We would like to encourage you to use this area of the tinterweb throughout the year. For now, it is the perfect place to introduce yourselves and hopefully help each other out with the project. Perhaps you’ll share ideas, research, or even some of the final pieces.

In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer and I look forward to meeting you all in September.

Hi everyone. I'm Emma, 20 and will be coming to college from Newark. Does anyone else live out that way? I'm looking forward to starting this course as the long summer holiday is starting to get a little boring now.

I was just wondering, - Is it ok to draw some sketches from photographs of places we've been to over the Summer, or do we actually have to draw the objects infront of us and stick to "still life" drawings? I've been on a couple of daytrips lately and wanted to use some of my photographs for a couple of last sketches....will this be ok!?

Thanks, Emma.

Hello Emma and welcome to the Blog.

You can draw from anything you wish, including photographs. Feel free to make observations from life as well as random marks - as long as it is using black and orange.

Don't be restricted, free yourself - be more spontaneous with some of the drawings.

The art of 'not thinking' in most cases can create better ideas.

Richard.
