I'm starting to get stressed already! I'm trying to do some research on the 1920's but all i keep getting is American stuff. Would prefer to get info on both US and British 1920's and can't seem to find anything. Anyone found or know of good website/books etc please?

I've been looking into the 70's a bit, but have only found stuff on feminism, sex, drugs and music. My product could end up going along a very sinister path :)

And how could I forget, lol. The US landed on the moon in 72.

It just occurred to me. Those researching the 1950's will want to watch the movie 'The Day The Earth Stood Still'. It was released in 1951 and was significant at the time because of its reception, mainly regarding cold war paranoia and the views on Communist Sympathisers.
It has also been [this year] voted as the fifth best science fiction movie ever made.

50s - definitely look at old British Noir and US Beatniks and the Beat Generation. Jack Kerouac is a must. He's been used in a contemporary slant with Gap Jeans - his novel On the Road was is seminal classic.

I don't mind people changing grammar and acronyms if it fits with the times, ie the internet during the 1900s would have been much more obviously worded. The Internal Network, or the Electrical Web. I'm trying to get you to play with words - to evolve this idea based on your research.
Don't stress, don't think of too many ideas. Just absorb, ready for when we get back.

is coffee republic supposed to have research with it? or just experiments and designs? trying to get it done so i can concentrate on rear view mirror.
Coffee Republic requires both research an a sketchbook. Don't forget your cultural references too.
Anthony, I always thought it was the artist Zamyatin who influenced Paul Rand.
I could be wrong though.

You need a final design to in poster format.
You need
*A poster (no smaller than a4)
*An adshell (The posters that go in the side of a bus stop)
and finally you need a T-side (ads on the side of a bus) or a billboard poster. (though not as large for obvious reasons).
EVERY PROJECT REQUIRES RESEARCH. Your final designs are then 'developed' and hopefully inspired by your findings.
RESEARCH is GOD. Remember that.
Oh...and power corrupts. lol
As for Bass' influence - I'm thinking of someone more well known in the artist world.
I'm expecting Robin's sketchbook to be especially strong just based on all the helpful advice he's been giving all of you.

though do note that 'mod' (meaning modernist) began at around 1957, but wasn't really popular until about 1965

Okay everyone -
I must say this is one of the most valued arguments I have seen so far on the blog and is a good example of every one voicing their own opinions about any 'problems' they have.
Please bear in mind that every single comment that is added on here comes directly to my email, so in the morning I get a stream of informative and often entertaining comments we can all use.
I agree with everything my students say on here - you all know we are very proud of you so far and try and help you as much as we possibly can. So, any student that appears to be condescending in any way is an insult to us all as 'learners'.
There are a number of matters that have been brought to my attention about this student and a DISCIPLINARY is in action based on what I have heard outside of College and the blog. I will look into suspending the student until the matter is resolved.
My advice is to ignore the problem and often it will go away. Except if it's a design problem of course.

i just have a couple of questions about my final design in terms of my project, because i'm doing the 1930's bus stops didin't have the advertising on the side and buses only had strips and not T shaped layouts.
i was therefore wondering if all i would have to do was make a portrait design a landscape design and the a single strip for the bus?
just wondering if i need to bare in mind the fact it will still be 1930 or if i just need to fill the brief
